Become a Foster Family
All persons who are interested in becoming a foster parent must fill out an application.
All potential foster homes will have a
1) reference/vet check (if you have a pet or had a pet in the past)
2) Home visit will be performed.
If you have never had pet before, we will guide you through what it means to foster an animal and give you any information that you may need to help you transition into being a good foster parent.
Home Checks will only be performed on homes WITHIN a particular mileage radius or time rate of Orland Park, IL (60462). We reserve the right to refuse adoptions/applications/potential fosters, to those who are outside our radius for reasons, including but not limited to, time, available volunteers, gas prices, etc.
-
We request that the pet be brought to this site for these adoption weekends. Our organization has adoption events on weekends that vary. You will be informed in advance of where the adoptions will be held (But expect you to follow our website for updates).
-
It is always preferred that you stay and help with the pet and also assist in the event itself.
But we realize this may not always be possible. We would just ask that you drop the foster pet off at the
beginning of the event and return at the end to pick him/her up.
-
Half-Way Home Animal Rescue will provide the medical needs of the foster pet(s) while they are in foster care.
-
We only ask that you provide their meals and direct necessities. If your personal pet(s) become ill while fostering - It is NOT the responsibility of HWHAR to provide medical care or reimbursement for your own pets.
-
Foster Parents of Half-Way Home Animal Rescue will not be permitted to adopt the pets that they foster. It is our need that a person continues to foster - So they can continue to save more lives.
Becoming a foster parent can mean the world to a pet and is needed for many reasons - Some pets are ill and need a quiet place to recover or may just need additional care. There are also nursing moms that need a foster home until they are healthy and strong enough to have a new home.
Foster homes are also needed for pets that have been neglected in the past or are timid and just need socializing for whatever reason. Also, pets that have not had very much contact with people, or only negative contact with people. Some pets have trust issues and just need to learn that being with people can be a good thing. A well-socialized and friendly pet is much more appealing to the public when they are looking to adopt a new companion.
Sometimes a pet just needs time to adjust. Some pets that come into shelters and rescue organizations are confused or stressed in the new environment. A foster home gives them the time to relax and enjoy themselves again before they are put up for adoption.
But, no matter the situation of the pet - they all need love, attention, affection and a caring environment.
